Songshan Cultural & Creative Park in Taiwan is a hub for art and design. Once a tobacco factory, it now hosts exhibitions, craft markets, and workshops. Creatives, art enthusiasts, and history buffs should consider visiting.

Things to Do

Explore the remains of the Matsuyama Tobacco Plant of the Monopoly Bureau of the Taiwan Governor’s Office throughout the following buildings:

  • Warehouses 1–5: Areas where workers manufactured & packaged cigarettes.
  • Tobacco factory
  • Machine repair plant: Machine repairs & maintenance.
  • Boiler room: Power source for tobacco factory.
  • Nursery room: Part of the factory’s industrial village.
  • Ecology pond: Was once for fire extinguishing, now a place to observe wildlife.
  • Office building
  • Inspection room: Workers had to pass through this area when clocking in & out.
  • Taiwan Design museum: Housed supervisors & officers.

Other than observing nature, the park often hosts exhibitions and local artists. Explore the various booths and see if you want to find any hand-made souvenirs to bring home.

If it’s a hot day, I recommend going to Family Mart and trying some of their ice cream. It’s the best ice cream I’ve had in Taiwan because it’s not too sweet, yet has a lot of flavor. I can’t recommend a specific flavor to try, since they change frequently.

If you need to escape the heat, visit the massive Eslite building. It’s a bookstore. But there’s also a nice hotel that I recommend trying. It’s one of the most convenient locations I’ve stayed in, since it’ll place you nearby various attractions like the park, Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall, and more.

How to Get There

The best way to get to the Songshan Cultural Park is to take the Taipei subway (Blue Line) to the Taipei City Hall Station and depart from Exit 2. From there, walk 10 to 15 minutes and eventually turn right on Lane 553, Section 4, Zhongxiao East Road.

Or take the MRT to the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall Station, then leave from exit 5. Follow the signs to Songshan Cultural and Creative Park from there and walk from 7 to 10 minutes.

The Taipei New Horizon Building has an underground parking lot. You must enter this through Yanchang Road.

Want to take the bus instead? Here are your options:

Or rent a YouBike. It’s Taiwan’s bicycle renting program that’ll allow you to ride through the city cheaply. You’ll find plenty of YouBike stations around the Taipei Dome—adjacent to the park.
